Rumors surrounding an upcoming middleweight variation of the Ducati Streetfighter were confirmed when the company released these images of the new-for-2012, 848-based model.
Details are limited, but a new Testastretta 11-degree variation of the 848 engine follows in the footsteps of the Multistrada and Diavel, which both feature 11-degree versions of the 1198 superbike engine. The name refers to 11 degrees of overlap between the opening of the intake valves and the closing of the exhaust valves, providing more flexible power delivery that emphasizes bottom-end and midrange output. Ducati Traction Control will be included as standard equipment on the new Streetfighter 848.
The Streetfighter 848 features optimized chassis geometry specific to its design, but actual figures have yet to be released. The 848 gets a single-sided swingarm, stacked twin silencers, radial-mount Brembo brakes and a more upright seating position courtesy of a higher moto-style handlebar.
Expect the Streetfighter in dealer showrooms this coming January in either red, yellow or a matte-black version called "Dark Stealth." Cycle World will attend the international press launch for the bike at the end of September in Italy and will provide a First Ride report.
