Big news from Honda: The Crosstourer, an adventure-touring model already sold in Europe, will start to be sold next May in the US, where this upright V-4-powered machine will be called the VFR1200X. This new Honda joins the CRF1000L Africa Twin, the NC700X, and the CB500X that are already in the company's adventure touring lineup.
Details: This new 2016 VFR1200X, available only in Pearl Black, will be officially unveiled at the Long Beach International Motorcycle Show on November 20. Honda sees the bike as long-distance explorer with the displacement and comfort needed for good two-up touring. To that end, the shaft-drive 2016 VFR1200X is powered by a 1,237cc V-4 that’s available with either a standard gearbox or Honda’s six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
Both versions of the new VFR1200X have Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) and ABS. The laced 19-in. front wheel and 17-inch rear should work well on paved or smooth dirt roads, aided by an inverted 43mm fork and what Honda calls “modern” suspension technologies.
Other features of note include a windscreen that’s adjustable with one hand, plus hand guards and an accessory socket for smartphones, heated vests and the like. Several accessories for the VFR1200X, most notably for storage and rider comfort, will be available from Honda.
“We’re very excited to offer such a well-rounded offering of adventure-touring models in the U.S. for 2016,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “The introduction of the VFR1200X to North America follows on the incredible reception of the Africa Twin. With the NC700X and CB500X also set to get important updates for 2016, Honda has a model to suit the needs of any adventure-touring enthusiast.”
