It’s no secret the Suzuki Hayabusa is a performance icon, but it’s also a very popular bike for the custom crowd, with a vast array of aftermarket parts available and practically unlimited performance potential. The eye-catching customs that result have worked their way into popular culture; the bike is a staple in music videos, movies and has been owned by sports stars and other celebrities. Among younger motorcyclists of an “urban” demographic, the Hayabusa is the bike to be seen on.
To celebrate that influence, Suzuki commissioned clothing designer L-R-G (“Lifted Research Group”) to design the slick-looking custom you see here. It was built in Florida by Nick Anglada of Custom Sportbike Concepts and incorporates many L-R-G motifs as well as more traditional Hayabusa soup-up tricks.
The main frame is stock, but it gets the tailsection from a GSX-R1000 and a custom subframe and swingarm. The suspension has been redone, and six-piston Berringer calipers clamp wave rotors. That crazy Lexan rear wheel mounts a grande 240/40-18 tire. The bike drips with L-R-G logos, from the stator cover to the seat to the custom Sportech windscreen. The Hayabusa logo lights up with a soft green glow and the mirrors are replaced by an ANT video system.
Whatever the reason is that Suzuki built this bike, it's a nice piece of artwork that looks remarkably good in person. It'll be at the rest of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows, as well as other lifestyle events like the MAGIC Fashion and Apparel Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February.
