Borrowing heavily in style from the K1600B bagger and other features from the K1600GTL, the K1600 Grand America is, as its name suggests, a tourer designed for the American riding environment. Like the K1600B, the Grand America has black finishes splashed across its 8.4-foot-long profile, a stylish windshield, and contrasting bright slash-cut dual exhausts that stretch well beyond the 190/55ZR-17 rear tire. To this attitude-laced design approach, BMW adds hard side cases and a top case, making the Grand America into a serious touring rig.
Like every other K1600 model, the Grand America gets its steam from a potent 1,649cc inline-six that’s torquey, silky-smooth, and reasonably thrifty too; returning a claimed 41 mpg, the Grand America can dispatch nearly 290 miles under its touring radials before refueling thanks to the big 7-gallon fuel tank. Among dozens of high-end features are a xenon headlight with automatic leveling, keyless ignition and central locking, automatically adjusting suspension, ABS, traction and stability control, heated seats, and even a reverse motor to help park and maneuver this 802-pound prairie schooner. Happy sailing!
