Cute is the new cool, as proven by Kawasaki’s groovy Z125 Pro. Not quite freeway legal, the Z125 Pro will nonetheless surpass 60 mph before its 125cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled single hits the rev limiter. But what fun can be had below that speed! Like the famous kids’ book The Little Engine That Could, this is the little bike that could…turn you into a hooligan! With a curb weight of just 225 pounds, a demure 46.3-inch wheelbase (8 inches shorter than that of a typical supersport machine), and a 31.7-inch seat height, its compact stature is just right for coaxing forth wheelies, stoppies, and donuts—all in a safe and legal environment, of course.
For 2018, the Z125 Pro comes in a choice of metallic gray, candy red, or a metallic black/pearl gray combo. Digging up $200 more gets you the KRT Edition. Festively appointed with Kawasaki Lime Green and black racing graphics, it looks like it just might be World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea’s pitbike. Or for the same tariff, choose the SE (Special Edition) with its elegant Candy Plasma Blue/Metallic Spark Black paint and gold wheels. Zow!
Likes: Cute as cute gets, and genuinely enjoyable to ride
Dislikes: Not freeway legal, though another 25cc would make it so in California
Verdict: Lightweight fun for lightweight budgets
