Yamaha’s XMAX is the Japanese manufacturer’s premium scooter offering. For 2025, the highway-capable step-through scooter receives a new electronically adjustable windscreen, a new instrument panel, updated traction control mapping, a lighter muffler with improved mass centralization, a USB-C socket, and a redesigned cowling with integrated turn signals.
Yamaha’s XMAX utilizes a 292cc liquid-cooled four-valve single-cylinder engine with fuel injection and a fully automatic continuously variable transmission. With no clutch and no gears, operating the XMAX is as easy as twist and go. Newly refined traction control mapping continuously monitors rear wheel speed and retracts power if slip is detected.
The chassis consists of a lightweight steel frame, a motorcycle-type fork, dual shocks, a 15-inch front wheel, and a 14-inch rear wheel with Dunlop Scoot Smart tires. Braking is provided by a 267mm front disc and a 245mm rear disc with ABS. Claimed wet weight is 403 pounds and the seat height is a manageable 31.3 inches. A 33mm telescopic fork offers 4.3 inches of travel and dual shocks offer 3.1 inches of travel. Fuel capacity is 3.4 gallons and Yamaha claims the XMAX gets 73 mpg.
A new electronically adjustable windscreen provides nearly 4 inches of stepless vertical adjustment that can be tailored on the fly via a control switch on the left side of the handlebar. Along with the new windscreen the front cowl has been redesigned to reduce buffeting and improve rider comfort. Yamaha granted the 2025 XMAX with a new instrument panel utilizing both a 4.2-inch color TFT display and a 3.2-inch LCD screen. Yamaha Y-Connect allows riders to connect their smartphone to the XMAX providing music control, vehicle information, and turn-by-turn navigation through the Garmin StreetCross app. Traction control mapping has been refined for improved intervention when rear wheel slip is detected.
The 2025 Yamaha XMAX is now available in Midnight Black for $6,299 with a 1-year limited factory warranty.
