If you have a security-equipped Harley-Davidson, you know that without your key fob present, the bike will not start. What you should also know is your PIN number, just in case you lose your key fob mid-ride. If you bought your bike new from the dealer, this information should have been given to you, but that is not always the case.
If your bike has security, as well as the fob it can have a backup PIN. It will be a five-digit number that your local dealer can change or set for you using the Digital Tech system. Once you know your PIN you can change it at any time yourself; follow the instructions in your owner's manual.
The process is very easy to do. If your fob is not present, turn the ignition switch to “on” and the security light will begin to flash. Press and hold the left turn signal until you see “Enter PIN” flash on the speedometer. Using the left turn signal to cycle through the digits and the right turn signal to select and move onto the next slot, you enter your personalized five-digit PIN and your bike will start.
So if you don’t know your PIN, go on down to your local dealer and get one of your choosing so you can be sure never to be stranded because that pesky fob decided to get left behind or lost.
