Thanks to an official licensing agreement between HJC Helmets and Marvel Entertainment, the Captain America replica graphic that Yoshimura Suzuki's Toni Elias wore to a podium finish this past June at Road America and a victory at Barber Motorsports Park is for sale.
Like the "The Punisher" graphic, the matte-blue design with the large white "A" and stylized wings is applied to the CL-17, a DOT- and Snell M2015-approved model that retails for $174.99. Elias actually races in the RPHA 10 Pro, HJC's lightest full-face offering, which starts at $374.99.
At Road America—round five of the 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship—Elias was asked if he was indeed “Captain America,” the patriotic super soldier who first appeared in 1941 in comic-book form and was later popularized in films and TV series.
Elias laughed. "No, these guys are Captain America," he said, pointing toward Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates Cameron Beaubier and Josh Hayes. "I just try to go with them."
HJC makes the following claims about the CL-17:
Advanced Polycarbonate Composite Shell: lightweight, superior fit, and comfort using advanced CAD technology.
"ACS" Advanced Channeling Ventilation System: Full front-to-back airflow flushes heat and humidity up and out.
Optically superior Pinlock-prepared faceshield: New 3D design provides 95 percent UV protection, an anti-scratch coating, and is prepared for the ultimate anti-fog system. Pinlock lens sold separately.
RapidFire Shield Replacement System: Simple and secure shield ratchet system provides ultra-quick, tool-less removal and installation for efficient operation.
SuperCool Interior: Moisture-wicking and antibacterial fabric. Crown and cheek pads are fully removable and washable. All CL-17 cheek pads are interchangeable throughout all helmet sizes.
DOT- and Snell M2015-approved; CL-17 Plus (3XL) DOT only. Available sizes: XS–3XL.
MSRP: $174.99 (add $5 for 2XL and larger).
