When it comes to trail bikes, we typically think of small-displacement youth-sized dirt bikes, but the CRF250F from Honda brings the mild-mannered, low-maintenance appeal of its CRF-F line to the (nearly) full-size realm. This easy-to-ride, air-cooled four-stroke from Honda was previously known as the CRF230F, but received a displacement punch-up in 2019, becoming the CRF250F. The CRF250F still retains the dimensions of its predecessor, making it close to full size, but not quite (full-size 21- and 18-inch wheels, but a low seat height), hence it’s suitable for teen- and adult-size riders who still want a confident reach to the ground.
The CRF250F is very similar in name to the CRF250R, but do not mistake one for the other—these two models are as different as night and day, with the CRF250F being the friendly option for beginner/novice trail bike riders seeking a comfortable, easy-to-manage ride. The CRF250R, on the other hand, is an aggressive competition bike, built to take on the rigors of motocross racing at the highest level. The powerful, fast-revving engine and advanced lightweight suspension of the CRF250R are quite the opposite end of the spectrum from the affable CRF250F. Just remember: F for Friendly, R for Race.
Push-button electric start, fuel injection, and an air-cooled engine add up to a dependable, low-maintenance dirt bike. It runs quiet and clean, meeting 50-state emissions standards so it is off-road legal year-round for optimum access to trails. A keyed ignition makes securing the bike easier, and the 34.8-inch seat height is suitable for a wide variety of riders. The CRF250F is a great option for casual riders, or new riders, especially those looking to not break the bank.
