The MotoGP circus is heading into another emotional weekend, for the loss of Nicky Hayden has left a great void in the road racing world. Last Saturday at Donington Park the World Superbike paddock honored him with a minute of silence before Race1. Riders, teams, mechanics and fans gathered around his Honda Fireblade SP2 and his helmet to pay tribute to a champion and a beloved human being.
His funeral took place in the US on Monday evening. This coming weekend at Mugello MotoGP will honor Hayden with a minute of silence and with the display of four bikes from his career.
The Honda on which Hayden won the 2006 world title will be joined by a factory Ducati, an Aspar Honda from his final two MotoGP seasons and his 2017 Honda World Superbike.
At Laguna Seca, eighth round of World Superbike, Hayden will be honored by a rider making a reverse lap of the track while carrying his number and a checkered flag.
Nicky Hayden’s memory is with us.
