The wait for information on Triumph’s 250cc single-cylinder motocross engine is over. Well, sort of. In the latest episode of Triumph’s Vision to Reality video series, which offers an inside look at the company’s motocross bike, those closest to the project give a brief overview of the platform. There are no specs or power numbers for the engine, but you do get to hear it running on a dyno.
While the wait for hard numbers goes on, it’s interesting to hear the team talk about the main objectives with this engine, which was developed with a flexible power curve in mind.
“Normally everything is give and take,” global off-road ambassador Ricky Carmichael says. “You either have good low-end or good top-end, whichever you prefer. But I feel like this engine gives both of that.”
“I think it’s good for all levels of riding,” full-time Triumph test rider Ivan Tedesco adds. “If you’re a beginner, racing supercross, [or] outdoors. Across the board, I think it’s a really great engine.”
The video wraps with Carmichael once again commenting on the wide range of power and how that makes this “a great platform for other models that Triumph Motorcycles are going to come up with.” A nice carrot. Perhaps more importantly, Carmichael suggests that the next video will be of him actually riding the bike. That video is set to drop September 5.
Keep in mind that Triumph already launched a similar video discussing the motocross bike’s chassis. You can watch that video here.
