When MV Agusta released a larger-displacement version of its 675cc three-cylinder in 2014, instead of just bumping it up to 750cc like many expected, the company engineers went all the way to 798cc. The initial result was a 125 hp bike that was well received by the motorcycling public, but the following year saw peak power drop to 116 hp due to the difficulties encountered by many manufacturers in meeting the stricter Euro 4 emissions standards. MV then released an up-spec RR model that put out 140 hp using larger throttle bodies (50mm instead of 47mm), dual injectors instead of single, and a larger-volume airbox plus a freer-flowing exhaust, in addition to higher-spec suspension and some other detail changes. Eventually it became apparent that customers were preferring the RR to the standard model, and only the RR model 800 is offered for 2024.
That engine now runs clean enough to pass even-stricter Euro 5 standards, and boasts a full electronics suite centered around a six-axis IMU, with the MVICS system including ride-by-wire throttle with a choice of four riding modes, eight-level adjustable traction control, launch control, and bidirectional quickshifter complementing the hydraulic slipper clutch. On the chassis side, the steel trellis frame has new side plates for improved torsional and longitudinal rigidity, while the rear suspension linkage now has a different progression rate. The fully adjustable Sachs rear shock gets a new spring and the internal valving is altered, and the fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi inverted fork also gets new valving. Braking is handled by 320mm discs clamped by four-piston Brembo calipers up front, and a 220mm disc with two-piston Brembo caliper out back. A new steering damper allows easier adjustment for the rider, and there’s new, more comfortable seat foam to better cushion your backside from high-frequency bumps.
The 2024 MV Agusta Brutale RR is available in Bianco Surreale/Rosso Fuoco or Rosso Fuoco/Nero Intenso for $19,998.
