Buell Motorcycles got its start in Erik Buell’s Wisconsin barn in the 1980s. The company grew while building American sportbikes usually using Harley-Davidson engines and was finally purchased by, and spent the majority of its existence under, the Harley-Davidson corporate umbrella, before getting shut down in during the financial crisis of 2009. After that, creator Erik Buell rebounded to form EBR (Erik Buell Racing) and started anew, only to have to shut that company down in 2015 after partnership with India’s Hero Motorcycles failed. Buell’s primary focus over the years was on twin-cylinder sportbikes, and nakeds, most of which were powered by Harley-Davidson engines.
