Suzuki has unveiled its 2017 SV650, announcing that the middleweight V-twin is going "back to its origin." The new bike is based on the previous SFV650/Gladius models, but has more than 140 components redesigned. Peak power is up to 75 (claimed) horsepower from 71 hp, while curb weight drops by more than 17 pounds for the ABS model.
Updates to the SV650 include a low-rpm assist mode, which activates the bike's idle speed control valve at low engine revs to assist with leaving a stop and running in stop-and-go traffic. The bike also features Suzuki's Easy Start system from the GSX-S1000, which requires only a momentary push on the starter button to start the engine. The engine is now Euro 4 compliant, with updates including new pistons with resin-coated skirts, a new exhaust system, and staggered funnels in the airbox.
