Limited edition of 500 bikes celebrate Ducati's 90th anniversary, feature all-new color scheme and new electronics package

At World Ducati Week in Misano, Ducati previewed the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, which celebrates the company's 90th anniversary. The limited-edition model - just 500 will be produced - features a unique color scheme as well as "new technical content" including an updated electronics package. Inspiration for the color scheme was drawn from Ducati race bikes, with the white, red and black fairing complemented by special gold wheels. Distinctive features of the Anniversario include a top triple clamp and steering head inserts machined from solid aluminum.Courtesy of Ducati
The top triple clamp of each bike is laser-etched with the bike's unique production number. The steering head inserts shift the front wheel 5mm forward, giving the same chassis geometry as the Panigale R model.Courtesy of Ducati
The Anniversario also sports a lightweight lithium battery, and carbon fiber heel guards, rear mudguard and shock absorber cover. Curb weight is 5.5 pounds less than the standard S model.Courtesy of Ducati
The updated electronics package includes all-new traction and wheelie control systems - DTC EVO and DWC EVO - as well as Bosch Cornering ABS, Ducati Quick Shift. Ducati Electronic Suspension is also standard.Courtesy of Ducati

Ducati claims the DTC EVO system is based on new algorithms and is more precise and consistent in its intervention. Working with the bike's IMU, the system takes into account lean angle and allows an "ideal amount of slip" for the rear tire, with increased precision; intervention is said to be more consistent and repeatable in the same riding conditions.Courtesy of Ducati

In addition to altering spark advance and the fuel injection, DTC EVO has the ability to work the butterfly valves in the throttle bodies; for times when high-speed intervention of the system is not necessary, this method allows the system to manage traction but still maintain optimum combustion parameters, for smoother intervention and engine response.Courtesy of Ducati
This graph shows intervention for a "simple" traction control system and for DTC EVO, which reduces the oscillations about the theoretically perfect intervention; according to Ducati, this is advantageous under conditions of varying traction, such as changes in rear tire grip as it wears.Courtesy of Ducati
In addition to this increased precision, DTC EVO is structured with a new level 1, which was formerly only available to advanced riders and professional racers and allows the rider to use the throttle for more slip beyond the typical level of intervention - allowing the motorcycle to slide and pivot around its front wheel and effectively allowing rear-wheel steering while the traction control system is active.Courtesy of Ducati
The upgraded wheelie control system uses pitch information from the Bosch IMU to control front wheel lift and allow maximum acceleration; the DWC EVO system uses new software and more accurately detects the occurrence and severity of wheelies.Courtesy of Ducati
The Anniversario will be available in certain countries as soon as mid-July; no MSRP was released.Courtesy of Ducati
