The MT-10 is heavily based on the latest iteration of Yamaha's YZF-R1 flagship sportbike, with apparently few modifications to the engine or chassis. "The radical MT-10 is ready to exceed expectations and appeal to those riders who are looking for a new kind of connected riding experience that can be enjoyed on any road, any time and at any speed," Yamaha says.

The 2016 Yamaha MT-10 is powered by the same basic crossplane powerplant as the YZF-R1, but the engine is tuned for more low-end and midrange torque. This is accomplished through the use of new intake, exhaust and fueling systems, and new, lightweight forged pistons.

While the MT's electronics suite is not as comprehensive as the R1's, it includes three riding modes, a 3-level traction control system, and cruise control that can be activated in 4th, 5th or 6th gear. A different clutch with an assist function gives lighter clutch feel.

The chassis is likewise developed from the R1, although the frame has revised strength/rigidity characteristics and a steel subframe as opposed to aluminum. Suspension consistes of a 43mm inverted KYB fork and an "R1-type swingarm" with a KYB shock.

The brakes appear outwardly similar to the R1's, with radial-mound, 4-piston calipers acting on on 330mm discs.

Dual LED headlights sit below a small flyscreen; the assembly is mounted to the frame rather than the fork to "accentuate the feelings of agility and lightness."

2016 Yamaha MT-03

Like the MT-10, the lightweight MT is based on the YZF-R3, featuring the same 321cc twin-cylinder engine and tubular steel chassis.

The MT-03's frame incorporates two main pipes of 35mm-diameter steel tubing, and utilizes the engine as a stressed member.

Yamaha has introduced two new additions to its European MT line of naked sportbikes, the MT-10 and MT-03. That’s the good news. The bad news is that US consumers probably won’t be able to get their hands on either bike. At least not yet.

As expected, the MT-10 is based on the company's latest YZF-R1, while the MT-03 is based on the YZF-R3; both bikes feature minimal bodywork and upright riding positions. The unfortunate truth is, again, that the two bikes were introduced at EICMA as Europe-only models, and Yamaha Motor USA has indicated the bikes will not be available in the US.

Assuming you like a tease, scroll through the gallery above to see more images of both bikes along with some additional details.
