The Austrian factory’s debut season should scare the other manufacturers

If you come to play in MotoGP, you better bring a fat wallet, a strong stomach, and a cool head. The strength of Red Bull KTM's debut MotoGP season suggests the Mattighofen factory has all the ingredients to be a force with which to contend long before six-time world champ Marc Marquez sprouts any gray hair.

During the summer break, KTM set its sights on earning a top-10 finish, which it achieved the very first race back at Brno in the Czech Republic. By season’s end, KTM had a rider finish in the top 10 in seven races. Such progression indicates that KTM is very quickly learning how to be successful in what is arguably the world’s most competitive motorsport.

“We must be proud and happy of what we have done this year,” said Pol Espargaró, one of the two Red Bull KTM factory riders. “Overall, we’ve had a good year as we finished much higher than where we started so the progression has been unbelievable.”

Making the achievement all the more impressive, lest we forget, 2017 was also KTM’s debut season in Moto2, where it won the final three races on the trot. The other manufacturers should be looking over their shoulders. The bull is charging.
