Hold for a hard card that grants you access to each MotoGP team's pit space and a sit-down with the top riders, there is no greater look into the MotoGP paddock and into the mind of a MotoGP rider than through the looking glass that is Mark Neale's latest documentary, Hitting the Apex.

A follow-up to Neale's Faster and Fastest films, Hitting the Apex is a documentary that focuses on the six fastest motorcycle racers in recent MotoGP history—Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi, Marco Simoncelli, and Casey Stoner—and the moments that made them the riders (people, really) they are today.

The 138-minute film concentrates primarily on the 2007 through 2013 MotoGP seasons, but almost thankfully it does not rely on the raw sounds and images of the bikes to keep you entertained. Instead, Neale and co-producer Brad Pitt provide an unprecedented look into each of the racers' careers, ultimately painting them in the same light—as modern-day gladiators who don't believe in giving up, ever…—and turning you into a fan of each. It's this storytelling approach that makes Hitting the Apex a movie we think everyone (not just MotoGP fans) will enjoy.

And for that ability to keep the attention of both race fans and non-race fans alike, we think Hitting the Apex will go down as one of the greater MotoGP documentaries of all time, one that really does the sport and its riders justice. If you haven't seen the film already, consider downloading it on iTunes or buying yourself the DVD collection.
