Video: 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1 Overview

An overview of the 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1 in its unique 60th anniversary paint scheme.

Yamaha's newest-generation YZF-R1 that it released last year has stolen spotlight from the other motorcycles that occupy the literbike category. The R1 continues to be on our go-to list even though it remains the exact same since 2015, which is the reason we tossed it in this year's literbike comparison test against the Kawasaki ZX10-R and Aprilia RSV4 RR.

Oops, we almost forgot that it did get a change this year. Yamaha made the R1’s bodywork now available in the company’s 60th anniversary paint scheme, a must if the motorcycle is on your purchase list!

The YZF-R1 is strong suited across the board of performance much due to the changes it received in 2015. Arguably the most impressive feature of the R1 is its MotoGP-inspired electronic package that helps control the R1’s powerplant with rider aids like Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), and Lift Control (LIF). Among other features, the equipped KYB front and rear suspension is also impressive as it provides feel and confidence on or off the racetrack.

Be on the lookout for our 2016 literbike comparison test in the August/September issue of Sport Rider Magazine!
