You know how it is when it's hot and humid, and you're thinking about how sweaty you're going to be under all your riding gear? But you put it all on anyway because you think, well..."Hey, you never know..." Well, this video from a dashcam of a motorist in Minnesota vividly demonstrates why you should always put on your riding gear, no matter how mundane you think the ride is going to be. Luckily the rider reportedly didn't suffer any serious injuries despite his general lack of riding gear, and all the cars managed to avoid him and his spinning bike on the highway.
Yes, we know that there are plenty of things the rider did wrong to precede this crash (situational awareness, following a little closely, target fixation, etc.), but apparently the guy had only been riding two weeks, so he was a newbie with little riding experience. To his credit, the guy was at least wearing a helmet in a no-helmet-law state (Minnesota only requires helmets for riders under 17 years old), as well as what appears to be a long-sleeve jacket. Let's just hope he heals up and his bike is fixed, and he learns from this encounter and continues riding. For the rest of us out there, a sobering reminder of ATGATT and keeping your head up at all times...
