The 2021 Chieftain Limited is Indian’s up-spec bagger, but one that stays more true to its traditional, air-cooled roots in comparison to the liquid-cooled Indian Challenger. The Limited utilizes the Thunder Stroke 116ci engine (1,890cc), an upgrade from the smaller Thunder Stroke 111ci used in the base-model Chieftain. Simply put: It’s an all-American V-twin.
Prior to an upcoming comparison test with rival bagger competition, we ran our 2021 Indian Chieftain Limited test unit, recording the horsepower and torque figures. The Chieftain produced a peak of 84.78 hp at 4,240 rpm and 116.23 pound-feet of torque at 2,730 rpm, right on par with competing Harley-Davidson and BMW models.
