The 2022 MV Agusta Dragster RR is an enticing Italian middleweight, in more ways than one. Unique design paired with engaging performance makes the Dragster an attractive motorcycle for riders and bystanders alike.
The heart of the MV Agusta Dragster RR is a 798cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-triple engine, which was updated in 2021 to meet tightening Euro 5 emissions standards. To address a reduction in friction losses, the valve train received sintered valve guides and DLC-coated tappets among other updates. The exhaust system was also reworked and the engine management system had been reconfigured.
It’s interesting to note that our test unit, the Dragster RR SCS, features MV Agusta’s Smart Clutch System that features a Rekluse RadiusCX clutch. The centrifugal design prevents stalling by disengaging the clutch as rpm drops toward idle and engages as rpm is increased, meaning riders can launch and stop the Dragster without ever touching the clutch lever.
Ahead of our review of the 2022 Dragster RR SCS, we ran the motorcycle on our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, recording horsepower and torque figures. The Dragster produced a peak 119.44 hp at 12,300 rpm and 54.90 pound-feet of torque at 10,560 rpm. For reference, those are very similar figures to that of the last Triumph Street Triple RS that we tested and slightly more horsepower than the Yamaha MT-09 SP produced. The most impressive aspect is the admirably flat torque curve that makes for strong and tractable acceleration from nearly any rpm. Horsepower output doesn’t surpass the 100 hp threshold until nearly 9,500 rpm, so taking advantage of the RR’s peak performance means keeping it singing.
