After being off the market for more than a decade in North America, the KLX300R was brought back to Kawasaki off-road motorcycle lineup in 2020. The Japanese manufacturer’s intention for the KLX300R is for it to bridge the gap between a playbike and racebike, with usage being mostly trail riding.
After riding the 2020 Kawasaki KLX300R at the introduction for the bike in Jacksonville, Oregon, we came away impressed with its overall package. “For an off-road rider who isn’t looking to race and wants to enjoy riding trails or in the desert with their friends and family, the KLX300R is an excellent option,” off-road editor Andrew Oldar wrote in the first ride review of the new KLX. The KLX300R retails for $5,499 and its closest competitor in the trailbike market is the 2020 Honda CRF250F.
The main difference of the new KLX300R over the prior generation machine is the addition of electronic fuel injection and electric start.
