Middleweight brother to the popular Z400 and Z900, the 2020 Kawasaki Z650 brings a punch of power with its 649cc twin-cylinder engine. Boasting redesigned elements in the sharper Sugomi styling, new TFT dash, new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubber, and thicker padded passenger seat, this naked bike continues to flaunt its athletic daily-grind versatility while giving some attention to creature comforts. Riders who also enjoy a spirited pace on the winding roads will appreciate its lightweight trellis frame while others may be attracted to aiding features like the assist and slipper clutch and ABS.
In our first look preview of the 2020 model we found, “Despite the newly boosted attitude though, the middleweight naked remains extremely user friendly, with a narrow chassis profile and willing, predictable engine that makes for a great steppingstone toward a larger Z or, for many, just a solid commuter or urban bike.”
The Z650 is in for a fight between the likes of the KTM 790 Duke, Husqvarna Svart/Vitpilen 701s, Yamaha MT-07, Honda CB650R, Ducati Monster 797, Triumph Street Twin, and Suzuki SV650.
For 2020, the Z650 features some minor updates including sharper styling, a TFT dash with app connectivity, new tires, and a thicker passenger seat.
Colorways available are Metallic Spark Black and Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black. MSRP starts at $7,249.
