Suzuki’s fully faired sportbike, the GSX-R1000 is primarily track devoted, but the 2020 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is part of the lineup for riders looking for a powerful daily rider with more upright ergonomics paired with a long-stroke 999cc engine that’s based on the legendary K5 GSX-R1000 powerplant. Further, the GSX-S is a standard literbike that touts smooth throttle response and adrenaline-pumping low to midrange power. Electronics include a four-mode traction control, ABS, an LCD gauge, and LED lighting for the taillight and turn signals (halogen bulb for the headlight).
Don Canet had surmised that the GSX-S is a practical and affordable alternative to the GSX-R platform and “Suzuki identifies the audience for its GSX-S (S stands for Street Sport) as experienced riders age 40 and up. These are guys who primarily sport ride on weekends, but will occasionally commute on their bike or do long-distance touring, sometimes two-up.”
The naked bike category consists of many powerful combatants such as Yamaha’s MT-10, Honda’s CB1000R, Aprilia’s Tuono V4 RR, Ducati’s Streetfighter, Triumph’s Speed Triple, and Kawasaki’s Z900. Another challenger to consider in the naked bike category would be KTM’s 890 Duke R.
The GSX-S1000 is available in two colorway options: Metallic Triton Blue or Metallic Oort Gray/Metallic Matte Black. Otherwise no other updates were highlighted.
