With an all-new 292cc engine, the 2020 Yamaha XMAX is the largest of the Yamaha scooters available in the US. This model is feature-rich with rider aids like traction control and ABS, LED lighting throughout, adjustable handlebar and windscreen, lockable onboard storage, and proximity Smart Key, all wrapped in angular bodywork. The increased power and plentiful features make this an appropriate choice for those who expect a little more out of a daily scooter ride.
The XMAX’s competition may include the Suzuki Burgman 400 which is a 399cc machine that features comparable ABS, LED lighting, underseat storage, etc., but comes at a higher $8,299 price. Otherwise Vespa’s 278.3cc, black-rimmed, and matte-colored GTS Supersport can be considered as well.
The all-new engine’s cylinder is purportedly crafted with Yamaha’s DiASil aluminum for heat dissipation, and features a lightweight forged piston and forged crankshaft. A counterbalancer minimizes vibration and the offset cylinder layout and semi-dry-sump lubrication system help reduce friction and drag inside the engine, Yamaha says.
