It’s been years since Harley-Davidson unveiled the LiveWire, now known as the LiveWire One since H-D has transitioned LiveWire to a stand-alone brand. There have been hints and clues, but until this morning the American EV brand’s second motorcycle was a mystery. Now the curtains have parted to reveal the LiveWire Del Mar platform, a lighter and more dirt-focused EV with a lower MSRP.

To commemorate the launch of the new platform, LiveWire’s first 100 Del Mar models will come with limited-edition paint and wheel designs and be known as the Del Mar Launch Edition—perhaps not creative nomenclature, but certainly direct. Special-edition models will be hand-painted by CPV, a process that takes five days per bike. Two colors will be available for the Launch Edition; Comet Indigo, as seen here, and Jasper Gray. Each Launch Edition model will have their edition number painted on the gas tank. Unsurprisingly, a mere 18 minutes after the reveal, all 100 models were sold.

The Del Mar is the first motorcycle we’ve seen from LiveWire based on the new S2 Arrow architecture, with its proprietary battery, motor, charging, and control systems. As we learned earlier this year, the Arrow platform is intended to be modular and serve as the central component in a variety of upcoming chassis.

Performance goals for the production S2 Del Mar model include a targeted output of 80 hp, a ready-to-ride weight of less than 440 pounds, and an in-city range of at least 100 miles. Charging will be available at both Level 1 and Level 2.

Despite LiveWire’s separation from Harley-Davidson, there are still several visible ties to The Motor Company, most noticeably a graphic on the side cover of the S2 motor that says “Harley-Davidson Motor Company.” In front of the bike is the familiar long oval headlight as seen on recent Fat Bob models, which adds a bit of trademark Harley-Davidson styling, extra-large branding and all. The Bar & Shield logo can be found in several places throughout the bike, from the tires to the USB-C plug near the steering head.

The new bike’s aesthetic is defined by its flat-track inspiration, with LiveWire’s press release calling it an “urban street tracker.” Front and rear 19-inch wheels are wrapped in specially developed Dunlop DT-1 street-legal tires with a flat-track racing tread pattern the company claims will be “equally effective on paved and dirt surfaces.” Hopefully that hints at the bike’s on-and-off-road capabilities. A slim seat extends up onto the not-a-gas tank, allowing riders to scoot right up for aggressive riding. Designer Eric Stafford was present at the unveiling and said that inspiration for aesthetics and ergonomics were taken from vintage H-D flat-track machines like the XR-750.

The limited Launch Edition will retail for $17,699, and S2 Del Mar models are expected to launch with a target MSRP of $15,000. For more information, check livewire.com.
