Earlier this year, Josh Day made us all cringe when he highsided his Yamaha R1 during Superstock Practice 3 at Road Atlanta. Next, it was Sylvain Guintoli's turn to make us feel all kinds of quivery, the French rider suffering a massive crash during Tissot-Superpole 2 at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy.
Following the crash, Guintoli was transferred to a hospital in Imola, where he was diagnosed with a concussion, contusions, and fractured left ankle. He was later declared unfit to race, and was forced to sit out the following World Superbike races.
Here's to hoping that Guintoli heals up quick, and that big highside crashes like this don't come in threes!
(Update: The Pata Yamaha team later announced that Guintoli is currently recuperating at home and plans return to the team for the eighth round of the season, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, on Friday 17th June.)
