Overview

“It’s hard not to like the new Bonneville. It’s a genuinely comfortable bike with intuitive steering and handling. Flat seat, nice bars, effortless to ride. It also has garage appeal.… Most of all the Triumph is fun. It brings back some magical combination of size, performance, and agility that got many of us into this sport in the first place.”

—Peter Egan, Cycle World, January 2009

When it comes to the Triumph Bonneville T120, what was true in 2009—and in 1959, for that matter—still holds water. The Bonnie has changed tremendously over the decades, but the latest T120, last updated in 2021 (and brought to the US as a 2022 model), still possesses that magic combination—and then some. The T120 uses Triumph’s 1,200cc High Torque engine producing a claimed 78 hp and 77 lb.-ft. of torque, and it’s a real peach, with a great soundtrack and just-right feel. Ride modes, ABS, and cruise control add just enough modern conveniences without overshadowing the timeless vibe.

The Bonneville is one of the most iconic names in motorcycling—the kind you almost think should be consigned to the past lest modernity ruin it. But Hinckley Triumph has executed its modern reincarnations with such grace that, unless you really like adjusting points and toweling up oil around leaky seals, the entire Bonneville legend has only grown deeper. Don’t get us wrong, restoring a ‘60s Bonneville is the Lord’s work. But if you want to enjoy the best part of motorcycling—riding! And oil-tight seals as a close second—the T120 is a hell of a value proposition. Most of all, the Triumph is still fun.
